23 Jun 2004 : Copenhagen - Denmark Viking Expedition
Ok the mission was simple. Study hard, fly to Copenhagen, sit the CISSP exam and pass. Right. I was very nervous before the exam. Had I concentrated on the right chapters? I was paranoid that I would sleep through the alarm or something. They are very strict about late entrances and I didn’t want to have to explain to Virginia how I had flown to Copenhagen only to be late and miss out. I arrived at the venue for the exam nearly 2 hours early and the taxi driver was a hoot. He looked just like Mr. ...More...

26 May 2004 : Barcelona - Spain Tapa Time23 photos attached
Barcelona has been fantastic, wonderful and packed full of stuff to do! On our second day in the city we went to a bull fight. I had been told by John to go and see one before they get banned. Never thought to ask why they would be getting banned. We asked at the tourist office if there was one on and she gave us the location and the time to be there. I quickly realized why they are on the way to being banned. For some stupid reason I thought that they just teased the bulls, played with them. I mean c’mon I never had to think about it before. ...More...

25 May 2004 : Marseille - France France12 photos attached
Marseille - The city that thinks it’s the capital of Paris. We hadn’t booked any accommodation because of our quick exit from the wet sack that was Sete. We had checked out 3 hotels that you wouldn’t kennel dogs (contact details of which were proudly given by the tourist information center) and was looking for our 4th hotel when we got caught in a rainstorm with all our gear. Excellent. Now we were on the run. Managed to find the 4th place which was full. I kindly got the translation of the sign from 2 old biddies in the reception area. ...More...

23 May 2004 : Avignon - France By the rivers of Avignon10 photos attached
Without any further ado Geordie and Virginia are pleased to announce: ‘From Colonge to Avignon in a Day, or: The Paris Train Station Nightmare’. The journey from Colonge to Paris was great. So far traveling by train has been much better than flying and definitely has my cramp of approval. On arriving at the Paris Train Station we try to find out where our train for Avignon departs from. We have an hour and a half before the train leaves though, so no worries, plenty of time. ...More...

6 May 2004 : Colonge - Germany Into the land of the giants38 photos attached
I know now that Jonathan Swift's inspiration for the mythical land of the giants Brobdingnag was the men’s toilets at Amsterdam Airport. There were four urinals in a row and one of them was set lower down the wall and had a step underneath it. Even after being awake for 24 hours and having endured a 12 hour flight next to two snoring seals I could still tell that the smaller one was for kids. The trouble was, even at the junior urinal I could hardly see over the rim let alone pee over the rim. ...More...

19 Apr 2004 : Chinatown - Singapore Leaving Liliputia19 photos attached
Well what an eventful few weeks us two have had! We are currently in humid Singapore, staying at a small hostel in Chinatown - it's very nice and clean. On Tuesday night we are flying out to Amsterdam and the cold - but as of 8 hours ago we weren't so sure we were going at all. To give a quick run down of what has been happening since our last diary entry: Geordie recovered from his Bali belly and I got my own bout of it which lasted a bit longer. ...More...

4 Apr 2004 : Bali - Indonesia Little Lilipution Morsels - gone off
Since our last diary entry we have been taking things very easy in this hot weather. We moved house from Seminyak to Sanur, took a quick visit to the Jimbaryan beach and fish markets (dead quiet) and had a good wander through the resorts of Nusa Dua. We are staying at the Swastika Bungalows on Sanur, which have nicer rooms than the last place, but you have to run in circles to get wet under the shower. Day 2 I asked to switch rooms and we now have a shower that you only have to duck and weave to get wet in. ...More...

2 Apr 2004 : Bali - Indonesia Wakingup on the beach of the Lilliputians3 photos attached
Apologies for not replying to any of you sooner. For the last week here we have not been able to access any Australian web sites including my email or yearaway.com My faith has been partially restored in the beaches of Bali. This morning when we went to the beach again we found dozens of Balinese people picking up rubbish and raking the beach. The "tip" we found yesterday was just that. An area of the beach where they were gathering all the rubbish to burn it. Just like us to find the worst bit of beach. ...More...

27 Mar 2004 : Bali - Indonesia Shipwreck3 photos attached
Well, after so much planning we finally made it! Nathan and Sue run this site and it’s actually partly because of them that we are here in Bali today. We first met Nathan and Sue at a resort in Bandusia in the lower Hunter Valley. Over dinner they and another couple were sitting there talking about all these amazing places around the world they have been. After dinner Virginia said to me "that’s it we're going". Myself always up for a good argument said "OK". ...More...
